See you in Texas »

I’m relocating to Houston through this weekend for the IRE/NICAR computer-assisted reporting conference. Maybe I’ll be posting, maybe I won’t. What’s it to you, anyway? In the meantime, have a look at this trippy photo of the Houston skyline by Flickr user telwink.

Did I just blow your mind?

A few stats I left out of yesterday’s self-congratulatory anniversary post »

Meant to include these geographic and referral details in yesterday’s self-congratulatory anniversary post. Enjoy.

CONTINENTS
I am not, as it turns out, huge in Asia.

North and South America: 13,865 visits, 85.25%
Europe: 1,581 visits, 9.72%
Asia: 444 visits, 2.73%
Oceania: 255 visits, 1.57%
Unknown: 61 visits, 0.38%
Africa: 57 visits, 0.35%

SUB-CONTINENT
Not even in southeast Asia, which contributed 50 percent of my genes [...]

One year of wmhartnett.com: Lots of cat pictures, idle opinion-mongering »

Things kicked off here at wmhartnett.com on Feb. 13, 2007, which can mean only one thing: A self-serving post to mark the site’s first birthday with a bunch of thoroughly unimpressive statistics. Here’s to even lazier adherence to and significantly greater indifference toward widely accepted rules of good blogging in year two!

January 2008 stats report »

I came this close to finally unseating the Hiphopopotamus post with my summary of our little geocoding accuracy comparison at work. Alas, it was not to be, and the stupid thing remains atop the standings as impenetrably as ever. Apart from the geocoding bit, I don’t remember writing a single substantive post all month. Naturally, [...]

Comment spam I really wish was real »

Recent comment spam from my new best friend, a delightful fella named “Garden Centers in Kentucky,” not caught by Akismet:
Why didn’t anyone tell me about this blog earlier? Lol. Seriously, awesome work on this post (along with your other posts…) Keep it up!…
I almost approved it just because it was so cheerful and encouraging. Hey, [...]

I’m pretty sure today is my first anniversary »

Like, 90 percent sure. But don’t worry, because my wife isn’t sure about the date, either. Was it the 14th or the 17th? Can anyone who was there help us out? It must be in some paperwork somewhere. Anyway, what a year, or 362 days, it’s been!

New job title, same great taste »

I think I’ve talked more than enough talk in the past 11 months, so how about a little walking for once? I’ve been headed in this direction for quite some time, but now it’s official: I’m joining the web staff full time. Starting now-ish, I’m The Palm Beach Post’s online innovations editor.
This is the first [...]

The 2007 site stats report »

Resolution for 2008: Adhere even more lazily to widely accepted rules of “good blogging.” Thought- and/or commenting-provoking lists? Not around these parts. Have another picture of Pokeweed. Stay focused on a single topic? More videos of sweet cars and Japanese people dressed as Star Wars characters dancing to Motown hits, I say. Here’s the year-end [...]

December 2007 stats report »

Had a little traffic bump at the end of the year, but I’m busy watching football and honestly just can’t be bothered to check why. On to the December stats, from Google Analytics and FeedBurner. Lifetime stats start Feb. 13, 2007.

The Great Hartnett 2007 Retrospective Spectacular and 5K Fun Run! »

Ah, 2007, what a memorable year it’s been. In the past 12 months, I started rambling away on this site, had my eyes opened by the many thoughtful members of the journalism blogosphere, and set my career on an entirely new course as a result. (More on that last bit soon. Or soon-ish. Maybe. We’ll [...]
