February 2009 stats report

It’s nearly mid-June, which can only mean one thing: It’s time for the February traffic report. Yes, it’s three months late. On the other hand, suck it. Overall, visits were up 118 percent over the same period last year, uniques up 128 percent, page views up 82 percent, average page views down 17 percent, time on site down 51 percent. On to the stats from Google Analytics. Lifetime counts start Feb. 13, 2007.

Two years of wmhartnett.com: That’s a lot of flippin’ cat pictures

by Flickr user chaouki

Cut and pasted (and very slightly updated) out of last year’s one year of wmhartnett.com post: Things kicked off here at wmhartnett.com on Feb. 13, 2007, which can mean only one thing: A self-serving post to mark the site’s second birthday with a bunch of thoroughly unimpressive statistics. Here’s to even lazier adherence to and significantly greater indifference toward widely accepted rules of good blogging in year three!

Except this year I am so much more committed to laziness and indifference that I won’t even bother with the stats. Well, maybe just a few totals, but you’re on your own when it comes to figuring out what the numbers represent, pal: 63,719; 53,566; 110,628; 1.74; 1:29; 75.45%; 84.03%; 116; and 2.

December 2008 stats report

Better late than never, right?. FeedBurner has been shambolic the past few months, so I’m no longer bothering with their feed subscription stats, which were confusing and opaque even in the best of times. Overall, visits were up 131 percent over the same period last year, uniques up 145 percent, page views up 86 percent, average page views down 20 percent, time on site down 40 percent. On to the stats from Google Analytics. Lifetime counts start Feb. 13, 2007.

I will now invite you to become one of my very best digital pals

I’m going to be way more social in 2009. But not in the real world. Definitely not in the real world. What, like I want to actually meet you people? No, I mean in the digital world.

I’m on The Twitter, The LinkedIn and The Facebook. I’m on other digital thingies, too, but, if I’m being completely honest, I’m just not sure I like you that much yet. So let’s be pals, eh? Ideally, you can be the type of pal who never asks me to help you move, because I’m really not into carrying boxes. Or couches.

The 2008 site stats report

In my 2007 site stats report I vowed that in 2008 I would “adhere even more lazily to widely accepted rules of ‘good blogging’” by avoiding, among other things, comment-baiting lists and strict focus on a single topic. Mission accomplished. Look for to more of the same in 2009; No redesigns, not even a change to my Twitter avatar. On with the year-end roundup!

September 2008 stats report

I very nearly forgot to post the September site statistics, but not even forgetfulness, laziness and general indifference can stop the pointless review of meaningless statistics here at Hartnett HQ. Probably the only thing of even middling interest is the appearance of Google’s Chrome browser, which was introduced at the beginning of the month and accounted for 3 percent of visits. Overall, visits were up 94 percent over the same period last year, uniques up 110 percent, page views up 59 percent, average page views down 18 percent, time on site down 44 percent. On to the stats from Google Anlytics and Feedburner. Lifetime counts start Feb. 23, 2007.

Another big moving day at the office

What a crazy year. I kicked it off by moving out of the metro department, where I’d been a reporter and computer-assisted reporting specialist for more than six years, and onto the editorial web team. That meant a move out of the newsroom, down a long hallway, and into a different building. (Do click on that last link, as it’s so totally sweet.)

More recently, following this summer’s cutbacks, there’s been a lot of restructuring around the office, (more…)
