That reminds me of my internship at The Ledger in Lakeland, Florida, in the summer of 1998. I was born and raised in Florida, and that's the hottest summer I remember. Wildfires burned 500,000 acres across the state. And I had no air conditioning in my pickup truck, and only about three dress shirts, and a daily 50-mile round trip to check arrest reports every day while covering the cops beat. The Summer of Sweat Stains, I call it.

I've got quite a lot of fond memories from a summer internship I did at the Tulsa World. One thing Google Maps doesn't quite show is the parking situation: the main lot for World employees is about 4 blocks away — a 'nice' walk in Oklahoma summers.
