Job opening: Get your research on in West Palm Beach
By William M. Hartnett on Sep 5, 2007 in featured, jobs, newspapers
We have an opening for a news researcher down here in South Florida. (That’s a news researcher, not a lab researcher, despite what the picture shows. What can I say? I’m an unforgivably lazy image searcher.) The listing at JournalismJobs.com:
The Palm Beach Post has an opening for a News Researcher excited about journalism and information. You are our candidate if you love research and information and the tools to get it done; if you enjoy working in an unpredictable, sometimes stressful environment with a great group of researchers, writers, and editors; if you have a broad knowledge, curiosity, and understanding of the world around you.
You’ll want to work in a place where excellence is expected and a competitive market drives an exciting newspaper. This position requires excellent online and traditional research skills, including heavy use of aggregated databases such as LexisNexis, as well as the ability to work independently and prioritize research needs under tight deadlines.
Flexibility of attitude and action will take you a long way towards success. You’ll need to feel comfortable promoting your skills on a daily basis, as well as be expected to participate proactively in the news process from its inception.
Bachelor’s degree and previous research experience required, preferably in a news or corporate library. Imperative to have strong computer hardware and software skills as well. MLS or equivalent graduate degree is preferred. Bilingual English-Spanish a plus. Hours: Sunday through Thursday with some evenings and holidays
