Latest YouTube find: Stupidly fast cars with a heavy dose of Futura
By William M. Hartnett on Jul 25, 2007 in geekery, video
I can’t stop watching some of these videos from Winding Road on YouTube. Not only do they feature stupidly fast cars, they also make liberal use of Futura, which, as you might not be aware, and I frankly can’t thing of any very good reason why you would, apart from, perhaps, the rather remote possibility that “you” are actually my wife, Kathleen, is among my favorite typefaces. (That right there was an nine-comma sentence. I don’t mess around when it comes to commas.)
[Digression: You know who else is completely nutty for Futura? Filmmaker Wes Anderson, that's who. Which is my excuse for making this observation: Why is Anderson's very nearly pathological use of the typeface noteworthy enough for inclusion in the Wikipedia entry for Futura, but not Anderson's own Wikipedia entry? I'd better get on that.]
Too, some of the Winding Road videos appear to have been scored by robots. Probably German robots. Observe:
