Two bits from bloggers at work: The pressman’s hat and Harry Potter in 3D

Two little things from PalmBeachPost.com

Tsk, tsk. You kids these days, with your Facebook and your Arctic Monkeys. You probably have never even heard of a pressman’s hat. I’m reminded of this particularly charming piece of newspaper lore by my database colleague Christine Stapleton, who just started an enviro blog called Seeing Green at work. In fact, she’ll send you a genuine pressman’s hat in exchange for a particularly good idea for reusing newspaper. (Personally, I like to keep my old papers in unwieldy floor-to-ceiling stacks spread throughout the house.) If you’d rather just make your own, the Deseret Morning News has a one-page, 100 KB PDF file with partially comprehensible instructions.

I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on the new IMAX screen down at one of the local moving-picture establishments this weekend, and the 20-odd minutes of 3D during the climactic bit was brilliant. But don’t take my word for it, the professional movie-viewer at work agrees, and describes the experience so that I don’t have to. I’ll go out on a limb and say that even people who aren’t fans of little wizard fellas would enjoy that big-ass screen and the 3D experience.
