I'm at 154 feeds, which I can barely manage some days. Google Reader tells me that I've read an average of 233 items a day during the past month. So that's about 1.5 items per feed per day. Applying that rate to your 987 subscriptions yields 1,480 items per day, and about 45,000 per month. My brain hurts just thinking about it.
