Broken headphones sapping my productivity
By William M. Hartnett on Apr 24, 2007 in geekery, whinging
What is it with me and overpriced products with key components made of cheap, brittle plastic?
First there was the glove compartment handle in my Volkswagen, which I’m clearly having trouble getting over. Now, a similarly cheap but important plastic bit has fatally wounded my beloved Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones. Without these headphones to cancel out the idle chatter and nonstop whinging of the workplace, I’m afraid my productivity is sure to plunge.
The question now is whether I should buy another pair of the same headphones, which I do love, after all. The alternative is that I never buy a single Bose product for the rest of my life in protest of their decision to use such an insanely cheap bit of plastic in such a critical position on such ridiculously, almost criminally expensive headphones.

Just go to any Bose outlet and tell them they broke easily and hw cheap you think the plastic is. Bose will replace the pair for free!
Hope that helps.
let me know how it goes

Thanks for the comment. I actually did end up taking them into a Bose store awhile back, and you’re right, they replaced them for free. They said there was basically a defect with the first-generation QC2, the champagne-colored model, that caused this to happen.

William:
I have the champagne colored version UNBROKEN and I went to the Bose store so I could get a free upgrade. The clerk and the manager asked me for $50 for a pair of the silver QC2. How unfair! Mine are even in perfect working condition. What Bose store did you went to or did you call the Bose customer service?

I went to the Bose store at The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Did they say whether the replacement would have been free if your old pair were actually broken? If so, I think you know what to do!

My silver QC2’s broke today at the same place. I have to pay 100 dollars to get them replaced.
