The Arizona Board of Appraisal says Zillow needs an appraiser license to serve up its automated estimates of home values. If some Zillow users are simple enough to believe its estimates truly reflect the actual value of homes in the real world, they surely have bigger problems than real estate to worry about. Returning all the products they buy off late-night infomercials, for example. Or remembering to breathe, perhaps.
On a merely somewhat related note, I’m reminded what a so far massively missed opportunity real estate data are for local newspapers. The Journal-World’s Marketplace shows that local expertise trumps the national reach of Yahoo! Local when it comes to business directories. No reason newspapers can’t do the same with real estate information.
