Staring at the sun

Lots of sun-related awesomeness at which you can stare, safely, courtesy of the Knight Science Journalism Tracker. (If you fancy yourself a science reporter but don’t subscribe to the Tracker’s feed, by the way, then you need to get your game right. Seriously, do you even know what RSS is? You sicken me!)

I’m a sucker for just about any picture taken in space, near or distant, but these photos of the turbulent surface of the sun are particularly cool.

For more about the Hinode probe, which is studying “the interaction between the sun’s magnetic field and its corona,” check out its NASA site, the English version of its Japanese site or, if you’re up for it, the Japanese version of its Japanese site.
