Florida an embarrassment. Again.

>Homeless attacks up in ‘06 (St. Pete Times)
>Florida No. 1 in attacks on homeless, survey finds (PB Post)
Is it the sun that’s warping the brains of these idiot teenagers who attack homeless people? The humidity, maybe? According to the report citied in both of the stories above , “The attackers repeatedly cited their motive of attack as boredom.”

At the risk of sounding crotchety beyond my years, in my day, no conceivable amount of boredom could have prompted even my rather significantly delinquent high school soccer teammates to beat a homeless man to death. It’s only going to get uglier when, inevitably, the homeless start fighting back.

Barring more spectacular alternatives, such as another busy hurricane season, I expect the Florida as homeless-attack capital storyline to start gaining national and, perhaps, even international traction, just like 2001’s “Summer of the Shark” and the murdered tourist wave of the early 1990s.

Is there any other place on earth this good at creating its own negative media frenzies?
